Octane vs Redshift. For a lot of artists this is a decision that they face. Deciding which render engine to choose can be a complex decision that usually results in a lot of research being done. Both are fantastic renderers and are capable of amazing renders. I decided to weigh in on the topic with my experience using the two as well as an on paper comparison. In order to do that though I needed a solid background image.
Using the amazing procedural tools of Houdini, I was able to quickly generate all of the crystal clusters procedurally as well as simulate the ground fracturing from the Octane logo. I did end up rendering the scene in Octane but that shouldn't be taken as the definitive answer as to which is better. Take a look at the video if you are interested in hearing more. I also plan on making more of these videos comparing Octane and Redshift by rendering a bunch of my upcoming works with both engines.
